Fines have gone up and they are applied to anything currently overdue. Patrons are noticing the things they had checked out prior to the fine increase have accumulated fines at the .15 per day rate and some of them are not happy. We have reduced some fines for some folks in that situation, which was our approach last time fines went up. Please use your judgment.

Nonresident fee is now $120 per year (up from $90).

The policy has been clarified that employment in the District which qualifies for getting a free card must be paid employment. We regularly have people who volunteer somewhere in the District claiming that as employment. It is admirable but it is not what we meant by employment.

Library volunteers who live outside the District will no longer qualify for free library cards by volunteering here.

Volunteers and board members will now be subject to fines just like we are as paid staff.

People who owe us $300 or more will not be allowed to have computer access at the library or access to library resources from home.

CA BLOCK FEE ANSWER

A question came up at our circ. meeting about patrons with a CA block on their account and we want to make sure that everyone is on the same page.

If a patron has a CA block and owes $10.00 or less, they may check out. Just inform them that the CA block will not go off until there is a zero balance and that they will not be able to place holds on their account. Just an FYI – it takes 24 hours for the CA block to disappear off their record after they have paid their account in full.

PATRONS W/ WRITTEN CARD NUMBERS FOR FAMILY/FRIENDS
There are patrons who have their spouse/kids/partner/friend/mom/dad etc. card number written on a P-slip, on the back of their card, or even have the card in hand, it’s ok to checkout to them.

We do not require a “written permission” slip from the card owner to prove that they may use that specific card. Patrons are responsible for their own card.

In-Service

Typical week is over!

The library will be closed on Wednesday, October 19th for In-Service (8 – 5). Friends will provide lunch for their annual staff appreciation day.

Monday, Monday

TLC Holds Messages/ Notifications etc.
Many people received multiple messages for varying circumstances over the last couple of days. Please advise the public that we are aware of the issue and we hope to have a resolution by the end of the week.

Changes in Circulation Policy
Please check your email or see the print-out next to the phone station for a list of changes starting November 1st. Changes include increases in fines and fees, as well as stricter guidelines for getting a card when employed in Corvallis but not living in the library district.

TYPICAL WEEK! :)

Technical Services Division: Ongoing questions about “Mends”

The difference between:

Unavailable: Mending (OPAC)
CMEND (Circ)

And

Unavailable: Mends/TS (OPAC)
CTSMEND (Circ)

CMEND items have been moved to that status in the Circ module by staff or volunteers.

The item then goes to YS, AS or Ext. for selectors to evaluate the item. The item will either be discarded, reordered or sent to TSD for mending.

This also means the item could physically be just about anywhere, on a cart in YS, AS, Ext, or on one of the carts in the hallway outside TSD.

CTSMEND items have been moved to that status by Teresa or Denise in TS when the item physically is in the TSD workroom.

FYI & Updates

    Return to Sender

Lori has taken over the returned mail that Lizzie used to do. If you see an address with a 99999 zip code it means that the patron has moved and left no forwarding address. We keep their old address in because some have given the same address, so only their zip code changes. If there is a forwarding address, all the information is changed.

She also expires cards until we get an updated address from them.

Some patrons have switched to a PO box and Lori has put a message in their record that we need a secondary address. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

    Display Shelf Below Quilt

In case you haven’t read the LMT and Adult services minutes -

New books will no longer be displayed on the shelves below the quilt, but all of our other display areas will remain the same. The shelves below the quilt will now feature selected oversize books.

    Cash Counting

When payment is made by credit card make sure to get the signed receipt back from the patron for the cash drawer. On the “rare” occasion when the person settling the cash drawer finds that a receipt is missing, simply put a note in the bag stating that it’s missing for Erin and Janelle (don’t stress over it). Yes, it is extremely important to make sure that all the receipts match the settlement for dispute purposes, but sometimes a mistake is made. Just be careful out there!

    Guest Passes

Circulation is now out of the guest pass business. If a new patron needs to use the computers, please direct them to the reference desk for a guest pass. The numbers have been removed from the circulation desks.

On Sally’s desk there is now a basket labeled Items With Hold Slips That Need Mending.

Please place all such items in that basket. Sally will make sure the patrons are notified that the materials are not going to be available until they are mended. TSD will give them priority and they think they will be able to get most of those thing back in circulation within a week.

Please remember to delete notes in patrons’ account when you’re resolving a snag. Thanks!

From now on, please send patrons with new cards to reference to get a computer pass. We will no longer be handing them out at either the cashier station or back-up circ desk.

For the next couple weeks, please put the date and time on any YA cart rolled over to Sally’s desk. We need to determine exactly how long carts are sitting there before being shelved. We then need to write down when the carts are shelved. Please leave the notes on Shaun’s desk.

Classic feature films are movies produced before 1970 or produced by: A&E, Acorn Media, BBC, BFS, Granada, Masterpiece Theater, PBS, and WGB. Classic DVDs should all have a “Classic” label. Classic DVDs are no longer getting an orange or purple label since those labels are used to indicate which machine the item is in. Due to the volume of items, we are not going to go back and remove the orange or purple labels from the original Classics. We hope that our patrons will get the idea that anything that says Classic is on the open shelves.
